The next step was to make better use of the energy it generated. Solar production peaked around midday, while electricity demand was concentrated in the morning and afternoon. This mismatch meant surplus solar energy was exported to the grid, while electricity still had to be purchased at other times. The customer needed a way to store that surplus and use it when the site required it.

Dunext Romania, together with its project partner FomCo Solar, welcomed over 100 energy professionals to ENERGY STORAGE OPEN DAY 2026, held on 24 July in Târgu Mureș and at the Chirileu hybrid energy site. The event brought together investors, EPC contractors, designers, system integrators, and operations specialists, alongside Dunext teams from five countries, for a technical conference and an on site visit to one of Romania’s reference projects in battery energy storage.

Dunext PowerMount Unlocks Asset Value in Upper Austria’s Largest 6MWh Battery Storage Project

The Attersee 6MWh battery storage project, independently financed and developed by Expert Nöhmer GmbH with SOLPRO GmbH as the EPC partner, has recently entered commercial operation in Austria. It is the largest battery storage system of its kind in Upper Austria, deploying four Dunext PowerMount-P700-1505kWh storage units with a total capacity of 2.8 MW/6 MWh. With a total investment of approximately EUR 2.5 million, the project is expected to generate a projected annual return of around 26%, with an estimated payback period of approximately 3.8 years.

For a well-established bakery group in Mureș, Romania, energy cost control is critical to maintaining production efficiency. The facility had proactively installed two separate photovoltaic plants (300kW and 400kW) at its facility, but operating as independent systems, they limited the site's ability to fully utilize its solar generation. The challenge was clear: to technically unify these two discrete PV assets into a single, optimized energy system with the primary goal of maximizing solar self-consumption to reduce operational costs, while enhancing overall site resilience.
