Dunext Romania Hosts Successful Energy Storage Open Day 2026 with Over 100 Industry Specialists

2026-08-03

TÂRGU MUREȘ / CHIRILEU, Romania –Dunext Romania, together with its project partner FomCo Solar, welcomed over 100 energy professionals to ENERGY STORAGE OPEN DAY 2026, held on 24 July in Târgu Mureș and at the Chirileu hybrid energy site. The event brought together investors, EPC contractors, designers, system integrators, and operations specialists, alongside Dunext teams from five countries, for a technical conference and an on‑site visit to one of Romania’s reference projects in battery energy storage.

At the Chirileu site, participants toured a 20 MWh storage installation built around four Dunext PowerMount 5 MWh containerized units and two PCS containers. The system is integrated with a 6 MWp solar plant and 5 MW of power conversion capacity, making it one of the largest hybrid storage projects of its kind in the region. With a nominal duration of four hours at full power, the installation demonstrates how Dunext’s storage technology shifts solar energy to higher‑value hours, reduces imbalance costs, and supports grid flexibility.

FomCo Solar, the project’s investor, EPC contractor and long‑term O&M operator, holds a rare three‑role position in the project. This unique setup provides real‑world insight into the entire asset lifecycle from design and integration to commissioning and long‑term performance, making the Chirileu project a valuable reference for the wider industry.

“We can discuss this project from three perspectives that are usually held by different companies. As an investor, we focus on returns and risk. As the EPC contractor, we are responsible for integration quality and the execution schedule. As the O&M operator, we will live every day with all the decisions made during design and construction. This is precisely why the lessons from Chirileu are relevant to the entire industry, not only to a single project.”

— Nyulas Bernát László, Founder of FomCo Solar

The system can store energy during periods of high solar production and deliver it later when demand or grid flexibility needs are greater. It helps reduce midday injection peaks, make production more predictable and, depending on the operating strategy, participate in balancing services.

“At Chirileu, we showed that value does not lie only in the number of installed megawatt-hours, but in the project’s entire chain: sizing, integration, control, commissioning, operation and service. A well-built system can balance photovoltaic generation, combine several revenue streams and accelerate investment payback. The Dunext Romania team supports investors, EPC contractors and every partner involved, from developing the optimal solution to commissioning, service, optimisation and scaling.”

— Marius Varga, Country Manager, Dunext Romania and the Republic of Moldova

The event highlighted the growing role of storage in enabling renewable integration in Romania. With a National Energy and Climate Plan target of 1,200 MW of battery storage by 2030 and dedicated investment support programmes, the market is moving from pilot projects to larger‑scale, revenue‑generating assets. The Chirileu project provides a practical example of how storage can complement solar generation and create multiple value streams, including energy arbitrage, imbalance reduction and grid services.

Dunext Romania provides local support across the entire project lifecycle from technical design and commercial proposals to commissioning, training and ongoing service. The success of the Chirileu project and the strong turnout at the Open Day underscore Dunext’s growing role in Romania’s energy storage market and its commitment to supporting the country’s energy transition.
