Dunext, a global leader in commercial and industrial (C&I) battery energy storage systems (BESS), has successfully commissioned the DN3H-50KTL inverter and PowerRack solution at a poultry farm in Wels, Austria.

 

Project Background

As one of the Wels region’s largest poultry producers in Wartberg an der Krems, the farm raises approximately 50,000 chickens in a few weeks fattening cycle. The operation currently relies on a 400 kWp rooftop PV system, but two urgent issues threatened farm productivity and profitability:

1. Power Interruptions Endangering Poultry Operations: If the grid fails and the temperature control systems shut down for more than 30 minutes, the young chicks can perish. The farm’s previous setup could not guarantee seamless transition from grid to backup power, jeopardizing poultry health.

2. Inefficient PV Use Leading to High Energy Bills: With rising electricity costs, the farm sought to store surplus solar energy and reduce reliance on expensive grid power during peak hours.

Dunext Solution and Key Advantages

Dunext designed and delivered a customized indoor BESS solution, combining two DN3H-50KTL inverters and four indoor PowerRack cabinets that precisely meets the farm’s need for a compact, safe indoor installation. Each PowerRack contains BYD 100 Ah LFP cells in a fire-protected, modular enclosure that minimizes on-site wiring and speeds commissioning. Advanced BMS optimization limits capacity fade to just 3% after 1,500 cycles, ensuring long-term reliability.

· Seamless On/Off-Grid Transition:

The hybrid inverters detect grid loss and switch to battery power in under 20 milliseconds. During a live test, the farms existing control system registered zero interruption with temperature controls and feeding equipment running without any disruption.

· Maximized PV Self-Consumption:

The system prioritizes charging from the 330 kVA output of the PV array during daylight hours and stores any surplus for use when solar generation wanes (nighttime or cloudy periods). This strategy shifts more solar energy to on-site consumption rather than exporting it, resulting in lower electricity bills and a faster return on investment.

· Full-Lifecycle Professional Service:

Dunext’s local team provided comprehensive support throughout the entire system lifecycle, from rapid design to hands-on commissioning and ongoing operation. Within days of the initial request, Dunext delivered a fully engineered proposal tailored to the farm’s load profile and site constraints while other providers took weeks to respond. During commissioning, four Dunext experts supported the installer and “Gold Partner” THE Power GmbH while managed on-site installation, wiring, and testing. Their meticulous work uncovered a wiring misconfiguration in the farm’s existing inverter setup, preventing potential performance and safety issues. This full-lifecycle approach ensured a reliable and hassle-free deployment from day one.
